I had the chance of living in he days when we can sleep with the windows open and the cold wind blowing into the house while we were sleeping. We did not hear of dengue then. But there was no electricity even in town areas. We live long with the normal oil lamps and later replaced by the gasoline. Nobody heard of TV and washing machine.

In bus and railway stations we left our bags unattended and there was a feeling of almost  complete secure.

Traveling was hard. To go to Air Hitam from Alor Setar would took us a day by boat. Today it is just 20 to 30 minutes. Almost every house we can find at least a motorcycle. We had to walk at least 1 one to school. There was no bag pack which would ease the burden.

I still remember the day people die day by day due to cholera. While in a primary school I saw daily burials as my school was near the graveyard. People were still scared of hospitals, haunted by the word operation. People accepted early death s they believe the life of the Muslims seldom exceed our Holly Prophet. I don't remember seeing anyone crying aloud when the dearest ones passed away.

We were afraid of our teachers whether the normal school or religious teachers. If we were canned we tried to keep from our parents. If our parents know that we were canned we would get more bonus. The mother never asked why we were canned. Teachers were highly respected.

Today we see things that we had never taught before. Daylight robberies, drug addicts and pushers, mat Rempit, corruptions, robbing poor men's land, accepting and giving millions, and killing to cover up crimes. Crime rates are on the increase. Students are challenging their teachers. Primary school kids smoke.

Those days are gone when we can live in peace and tranquility. But today the quality of life has increased a great deal. Thanks to the rapid progress in technology. It shrinks the world. It makes our arms longer and our vision like a magic. We see distance at our home.

THE STANDARD

The standard is not measured by the quantity but the degree of difficulty. If you open a university and everybody got As in all subjects and the lecturers only know A then people are scared to employ the products. Recently one law lecturer only passed 5 of her students. The university asked her to lower the passing marks or increase the number of passes. She refused. "I have to give the marks they deserved." She resigned.

At times the government sent political persons who passed only MCE to USA to do the Master degree. Many avoided difficult courses like statistics and instead took subjects like takraw, badminton and other non-exam subjects. They came back as lecturers. I can't imagine what kind of lecturers they are. To stay as a lecturer they have to give As.

The lowering of standard will effect the nation in the long run. We start to see organizations with low quality officers making important decisions which can ruin the nation in term of wastage in resources and it brought down the image of the country. If you open a factory, certainly you would  be very careful and will make the right choice to choose you officers.

But human being is peculiar. No one will say he is of a low quality person even though he may be illiterate  .There is a whole spectrum of such people from the university graduates to the normal illiterates. There may be a positive correlation between attitudes and quality.

On the other hand a good and right attitudes like the willingness to learn and putting effort at work can enhance a person's quality regardless of his educational qualification. Hard work is one of the good work ethics and attitudes. Usually people with the right attitudes are behave well and can be trusted.

People who want everything free and getting things easily don't have the right attitudes. As far as I am concern I would not like to befriend such kind of people.

I LIKE FEMALE

I like more women than men. When I was young I always thought that women cannot think and are always stupid than men. They are just objects for men to play with. I was totally wrong, dead wrong. Women always did a better job than men in offices. They are more shrewd and careful in doing businesses. Their work are always clean.

Their minds are very sharp. I notice it when I have political discussions with them. Most my political talks were with graduate women. What I have not known whether they have discussed with their husbands about those subjects matter before talking to me.

Some people said that female could not think as good as male. I don't think this is true too. I taught visual basic programming with deep coding arguments and yet they could comprehend them and finally able to write their own software within a short period.

When I was a school principal, I had a wonderful female clerk who were trustworthy, quick to learn and very efficient in her work. Unfortunately enough she is beautiful because people began to suspect that I have had an affair with her. Finally she was transferred. Any new clerk that came in, I have to tell them to emulate my former clerk. I would relate the work procedure to the new comers. Again the female clerk did a better, neat and excellent job.

When my wife was well and healthy I depended on her on many things. She made my travel arrangement to the United States, booked the car and hotel. Now that she is sick and on the wheel chair she is almost helpless. That's the reason why I would take her along when I went traveling local and overseas.

Not many women were chosen in the last UMNO GE. It is just unfortunate for the party.

HOBBIES I INVOLVED IN

Once I chose chess as a hobby. I played both the Chinese and English piece. Chinese was cheaper then. It would costs me about 60 cents only whereas the cheapest English chess set at that time was about RM7.00. It was considered expensive.

If we know English we will know Chinese. I found that the phau is not found in English. You have to  be careful with the Chinese as you may be  caught by the phau.

I did not play for my school. But whenever our school traveled I was taken along. I was never even a champion in school. There were two brothers by the name of Meng Soon and Meng Khoon who always beat me. I think they are both doctors now. Since I left school in 1965 I did not find them anymore.

In technical teachers college, I was the champion. Not because I was smart but because nobody was better than I was. When I went into the world of work I stopped playing chess.

Then I got involved in amateur radio in 1970's. It was fun then. In 19802 I stopped transmitting because I was in USA . It follows by the coming of computers and IRC chat. I went chatting with MIRC until 2002. When I came back to amateur radio, I found it was full of undespicable group of people. The world and Malaysia started killing ham radio. The authority was the worse I ever found. Some radio members were horrible, lazy and incompetent. Even criminals were members. Many old timers stopped. And I decided to quit too.

I decided to come back to internet chat which I believe will be more fun and interesting. We can see images of people we talk to wherever they are. We can choose the kind of people we want. The audio and video quality is excellent.

Besides I also develop soft wares. During the younger days I wrote many programs because my thinking and vision was sharp. I could visualize abstract things better. Now my thinking has deteriorated very greatly. I told myself that I need to pass my knowledge as fast as I can. I have started several classes teaching some of my former teachers and this will go on for some time. Of course they are for free.

CAN CHINESE BE BOUGHT

UMNO and many people have the perception that Chinese are easily bought and corrupted with money. The root of the thinking is based on the nature of the Chinese community who have been working hard for money. The Chinese would bow to get money.

The concept that everybody bows for money at any cost is archaic. Today the Chinese like many Malays do not only embrace money and promise of wealth, they also possess the value of high morality. They do not respect an immoral wealthy person even though he may rain them with money.

A good government does not show double standard. People see thru the intent. The public scrutinize the court issue on the legality of high court interference against the state legislative. The Perakians are observing this closely. If the by-election at Penanti shows Chinese vote goes to Pakatan then it is a clear proof that Chinese are not easily bought.

If BN's strategy fails then it speaks for GE13 outcome. If Penanti goes to BN then the future can be bright for the party. If it fails then the bias judges, the EC, the AG and the manner Perak was wrested has to be blamed. Of course Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy trial will be the determinant factor. If people see evidences are manufactured and the court proceedings are bias then the Malays will rebel again.

BN has to be really honest and sincere, not only using the money strategy to buy popularity. Remember the Chinese had voted for Pak Lah in 2004 which was already a proof that they are not chauvinist and anti Malay.

People go for peace and tranquility, less or no crime, no corruption and leaders with high moral value. People means Malaysians of all origin.

WHY NAJIB TOOK THE LOSERS IN

A certain quarters criticizes Najib for taking in losers to the Supreme Council. Some may be wondering why. The reason is simple. Pak Lah's vote went down in 2008 because Mahathir had made a road show calling the UMNO members to go against him. In my village a mamak played the role of campaigning against Pak Lah. All over I heard phrases on Mahathir and condemnation on Pak Lah.

Observing the split in UMNO, Najib can't afford to see the split continue until the next GE. Najib has to award posts and satisfied every UMNO members to ensure the engagement stopped. Any party would have done the same thing to regain the strength.

I think Najib is confused. Advices poured in one after another. He moved too fast, not able to think any possible effect in detail. People are taking chances and strike at every opportunity they can. It includes the greedy business community. Najib by nature is responsive to requests. He took the losers in to comply to a certain request or as a result of his own thinking.

Secondly it was believed that UMNO members are not matured enough in making the choices. Votes were made not base on rationalization but more so on emotional quest. Looking at the behavior of the members during the last UMNO GE it is clear that the members do not care to enhance the image of the party. Matured people would behave well. Najib believed that some losers are capable individuals.

Rounding all up it is expected that there is no reason why UMNO cannot be strong in the next GE. As I said in the above article Najib can test his deccission at Penanti. It may well work at the latest by-election. If it fails a big head ache is waiting.

BEING OLD

Being old gives us a new experience. We begin to see how and what younger people think of us. Everybody called me Uncle or Pak Chik. When I was on a bus a young girl about 22 stood up from her seat to give way for me. She either was showing her respect towards an elderly person or thinking an old man has no more strength. I rejected and thanked her because I think I could beat her anytime in jogging or long distant walking.

I would face another situation in hospitals. Many nurses whom I think are old enough and looked like a grandmother would raise their voices when dealing with people of my age. They assume our hearings need loud voices. They would explain things as if they are explaining to children like ,"Uncle, you cannot eat banana or any other sweet fruits. You are a diabetic. " But the doctors are different. They would ask me where I worked before, what I do now and whether I refer to internet on disease and medication.

When I went to computer shop the explanation would be simple just to make me understand the computer stuffs. People are thinking old men's mind are rusty, forgetful and do not understand modern technology.

In my old school people still discuss heavy things with me from politics and computing. May be because I was their boss once or they still see me as before.

Senility is a disease usually suffered by elderly persons. Our kids tend to think we are senile. If they are with us they treat us as if we are babies. But they can leave us and work in some other places not fearing of our welfare. May be if we die life would be easier for them.

Being old means we have seen many things, many leaders, the change in social life, development, technology, educational system, management system and many more. We compare and contrast between leaders, systems, head of departments, management systems and other culture. We weigh the change in value and thinking. Because old is associated with senility then people do not heed our views and ideas.

Old people have heir place in Communist countries like Cuba and China. Castro is mostly respected as a wise man and a leader. In China they have universities for people as old as 80 years of age. The Chinese tradition of respecting the Lao Tze is alive until today.

Many people said to me, "Wow you look strong, walk strong....." How do they expect me to move and walk ? I am still puzzled. Don't play the fool with some old people because their penis erection are still strong and they would go for sex with young girls. When I asked my former lady teacher to go to tour with me and sleep together she would shrugged her head ,"OOOoooooooo Ooooooo I don't trust old man.."

POWER

A divine power entrust to the ancient ruler created fear among the subjects. Mao Tze Tung , said that power comes from the barrel of the gun. The more military might one has the more powerful one becomes. The military ensures the written laws are secured, obeyed and respected.

Ministers, head of departments are said to have powers. Their actions could not be questioned unless it is specified by the law. Today those powers are challenged. In the USA there is the right to hire and fire law. It is a law that give power to the employer to act on his subordinates.

Many a time the power one has is being misused. The police, Minister and head of department deploy the power as they interpret . At one time government employees were transferred to  remote areas by an UMNO leader. Some staff members were allocated with licenses without having to pass a certain test or exams.

Misused of power is usually accompanied by the disregard of the existing law. Hence these people are above law yet Rais Yatim had been mentioning Malaysia is following the rule of law. But at times the government is not aware of it's servants flouting with the power invested in them. I am not going to point out the organizations but we hope these people would exercise their power wisely.

Young officers are sharp in their thinking but very few look ahead far beyond computing the effects of bad decisions. Malaysia have been making many bad policy and decision which cannot be undo. The later generations will suffer as a result of their sins.

WE CAN'T THINK GOD

A person blind at birth can't imagine many things unless we provide visual experience thru tactile experience, letting him touch a certain description. When we want him to know ear we have to let him touch an ear. Assuming we do not expose him to touching shape with description he will not be able to imagining things.

So are the mankind. Our thought, visions and knowledge is merely base on the experiences. We cannot think and visualize anything we have not seen or experience. When people talk about God we tend to imagine God in our way of thinking and imagining. To some who cannot understand the concept of outside the boundary he will not believe in the existing of God. He thinks God with human experience which has vast limitations.

Our only human thinking at the highest level says nothing can exist by itself. Beyond that our mind is blind, totally blind. Hence there must be Creator. The Creator is common to all. And almost all religion believe in pre-destination. Even that idea and concept is beyond human thinking and discussion. But we can keep on thinking about them.

If we believe in pre-destination then we can accept many happenings in the world without asking much to the reason why. We would accept to the lost of our beloved ones, poverty and all misfortunes that befell upon us. We would always thank God. Some would see this as passive and hindrance towards progress.

Likewise people cannot imagine life after death . When a person dies he will be burned or eaten away by worms and snakes and the body rots. So they may not believe in it.

The next thing human is able to think is 'Why take risk at the unknown'. The risk is between going to heaven or hell. Following the safe path is always better than taking risk.

Recently there are many books that blame religion for war and hatred forgetting that the war between capitalists and the communists were not a factor of religion. The cold war between North Korea and Iran with the Western World is not a religious war either. War and conflicts are between the oppress and the oppressor, between people who want to be the master of the world and people who refused to be their slaves.

Lately I have several misfortunes. Thinking about them made me sad and miserable. My religion teaches me to accept them and stay strong. There might be something good behind it that we don't know. Thinking over it I found I am more fortunate than many other people. I have had almost what I have wanted. In fact even above my imagination. God has given me more than I needed.

Alham Dulillah.

MONEY IS DECISION MAKING

The first day my fiscal administration teacher said was 'Money is decision making'.  Studying organizations the world over, they all starts with bidding for money. The building and maintenance, machines and papers, manpower and salaries. And it follows by an annual budget to be requested. Some departments are competing hard to survive. Business community lobby the politicians for policies to favor them. Again the lobbying process involved money.

In the United States the parties laid out which area money will flow to like between health care and military spending.

An organization cannot have everything it wants. The number of employees, the hardware and other things deployed are decided by the amount of funding it gets. The head cannot simply decide to employ another worker unless he pays from his own pocket.

Any formulated policy never announced the money behind it. It always mentioned citizen's welfare and using technology or environment to support the claims. When an army is bidding for fund it has to draw the threat of the enemy, or even creates the non-existence foreign hostility.

Usually new technology will put many companies to bankruptcy. Chips replaces hard disk and cassette, computer communication replaces radio, and i-phones will soon replace many other hand phones. Thus those changes expose a deadly threat. For survival they have to lobby for a certain policy. Radio companies had work hard to ensure their survival. The decision to remove Morse code is the 'money reason'.

Even domestic decisions must depend on the household income. Domestic economic crisis sometimes led up to family break up and divorce. I always asked people of different communities 'How much it cost for a funeral....' Even death need money. At the time you were born until the time you depart with your breath money pays for everything.

BODOH SOMBONG

When I was working I met with numerous sort of people. Some I have written about them yet many others are still kept secret. One interesting episode was about a lecturer from IAB came to observe one of the teachers teaching BASIC programming and commented the coding was wrong because the word END was not placed at the end of the line. When the teacher seek my help I informed the lecturer that END is a command to stop the the program from running. It can be placed anywhere relevant. He insisted that it must be placed at the end of the algorithm. In Malay we call it Bodoh Sombong.

Another was a sale girl who had just graduated from ITM came to sell a software. At that time I was developing a software. I told her that we did not need her software because we developed our own. She looked at the computer and asked whether that was our own program. She was then commented and taught me what and how to write a better codes. This one was not a Bodoh Sombong but a new person who thought the others did not know computing as much  as she did.

Another case was about a teacher who went to a computer course who told me that his lecturer was not capable as he did not know how to use one brand software. This case is something like a person who learned the ABC and found X somewhere else, but think he was better than his lecturer who did not encounter with the X software yet.

I found many very new school principals like to brag of their abilities. They did this and that. Some of them were school inspectorates. I said nothing and argued nothing. I just waited for the SPM result. Then I gathered their result to  assess their successes. They did not fare well at all. And I would wait for another year. In the third year only I would hit back when I heard them bragging and boasting. But usually even after the first year some would look morose and said nothing when we meet.

One of the general happenings is that non-university people like to condemn the university graduates, the engineers, the doctors and all the highly academic qualified people. "That graduate is so stupid...." "That engineer is so stupid...".Everybody is stupid except him. He would raise his voice in argument. The point is he cannot study in school and he cannot enter any institution of higher learning.

True that some university graduates are arrogant and think they are the smartest people. But a big majority are humble and keep their smartness to themselves and do their work extremely well. In school the graduate teachers perform extremely well. Some of the non-graduates also perform very well. A few engineer teacher is showing a bit of problem. I think teaching is not the right job for engineers.

There was one education officer of a high rank came to my house in the school compound. My radio and plastic containers containing electronic components were in my shack. I showed him those stuffs and answered his questions. Later on I was told that this officer said "Dia nak menunjuk-nunjuk yang dia ada barang elektronik dan radio...". Look at his mind. People never advertised their home to show people what's in them. Neither do we invite them to the house. And he had this kind of comments. The same person said the computer system in my office was for a show off.

In this world there are people who do not want other people to be better than they are. Some have very low self esteem. Others committed degrading offences. You will see these people's behavior by attacking and accusing others just to hide their undesirable work and the low self -esteem. They would create unexisting things. When they can't or incapable they would create things up. It is something like sour grape.

I don't want to be a teacher. I want to be a doctor, a philosopher, person with a strings of Phds. But I can't because I am not smart enough. I cannot blame the government or the environment. I cannot the blame on poverty or my parent. It is just because I am not smart. In term of intelligence may be I don't have the mental smartness.

Not being smart and intelligent is not the end of our day. There are tycoons and very wealthy people who were school dropouts. More important than our IQ is our attitude. Moral values like hard work and persistence with positive attitude could shape our future. People with positive attitude will never blame people for their failures but instead will continue to strive till success.

THANKS TO THOSE WHO ARE CONCERNED

There are many hams who are concerned about my giving up amateur radio. I would like to thank them all. A few called me up to come on the air.

My shack is empty with radio. They are being replaced with computer stuffs. I have 2 laptops; one connected to the internet and the other doesn't. I use the independent one to develop soft wares. And I am gaining friends on the websites. Carefully I chose people of my age to chat. I prefer typing to voice chat. We talk about many things. Very interesting.

Are you concern about amateur radio ? You want it to be a respected, high class and a divine hobby ? Then think about it. Think hard and think deep. I just can say it is not a 'seronok-seronok' hobby. It could be a national asset and an ambassador. It portrays the image, mentality and culture of the country. The way we talk, what we convey and our manners will show who we are. That is all I want to say. You can read all others in my previous essays. Observe other topics too.

I just don't think ham radio today can be as it was before. The coming can be worst. Just think how it can be worst. But I won't stop you to continue with it. Eventually you see what I am seeing and realize something has to  be done. Right now you can always start thinking how to make a ham radio as the king of the hobby. I have heard the TNB people said "We have been talking thru the radio for 30 over years..."The CBer said "We have talked throughout the world for years....." The chatters said " We talk and see each other all over the world.....What's so great about ham radio ?"

I feel sorry for the MCMC because the world sees it red. May be it is happy with one particular 9W2 who declares he is a hero and represent all the Malaysian hams. I just won't give a damn shit.

To those who are sitting for CW test, I wish them luck. Don't care what other people say. Do not be frustrated if you fail. Never give up. It's a challenge and unforgettable experience. At the end of the day you will feel very fulfilling and satisfying. That makes ham radio differs from others; the extra skill. RAE ? There are plenty of people who can't even interpret resistor's color codes and can't even talk about ohm's law.

Think also about the membership and the quality. Think what is meant by positive attitude. Think about every other thing.

I pray for God's support and pray for those who are concerned with amateur radio today.

INTERESTING HABITS

I myself do not have good habit. I may be telling about my bad habit later. Right now I am going to tell the story of a few interesting habits of a few friends.

a. Mr A is a little stingy. Whenever we go out I like to order expensive items like a big prawn which wold easily cost about RM10.00 a piece. He would just order cheaper stuffs like nasi and ikan. Of course as a courtesy I invite him to taste the prawn. He would say no. But while eating he would take the udang bit by bit until he left nothing for me. Knowing that habit I would order two prawns at any other time.

b. Mr B, when going to toilet for pissing, he would go near where there are persons on his left and right. His habit was to look at the penis of both of the persons. Then he would tell us the size of the penises he had a look. This person is not too big but he is endowed with a very latge penis.

c. Mr C, when going to buy kueh, would touch most of them and put them back. His reason was to choose the soft ones forgetting he might have left germs on the food. The kueh seller must be very angry but said nothing. I wouldn't buy any kueh if I were there, just observing his behavior.

d. Mr D, when taking to restaurant for makan, would always order food for his mother or kids but he did not pay for it. Finally I stopped asking him to go out for makan with me.

I am sure you have experience or come across people of interesting habits, but most of the time you would keep it to yourself and say nothing about it.

LOCAL VS FOREIGN WORKERS

I did not do any research nor made enough observations. What I concluded here may not be true at all. Please make your own observation.

There is one rest area along the Plus highway which I found to be dirty and not clean as before. I saw the workers were all Malay. Previously the workers may be from Bangladesh. I also had heard that the business community said that they had problems with local workers in many aspects whereas the foreigners were better and more diligent than the local.

Such situation could create a big social problems. The large number of foreigners had taken away the jobs for the local leaving the Malaysian jobless and lead to the increase in drug addicts. Poverty among the local increase. The Ministers may not be aware of the urban poverty of the local people.

The outcry has been brought to the parliament but nothing changes. The government bowed to the business people.

Why local workers are lazy ? Does it only of the lower educated group ? Or the big majority of the locals are of the same quality ? The marketability of a person depends much on his hard work, willingness to listen, able to communicate well and in some jobs ample knowledge and skill.

There are jobs that need language skill like English and Mandarin. Persons who prepare themselves for job market would not wait to go to Mandarin and English classes. Unfortunately some people abhorred the two languages mentioned. The right I would used for these people is stupid.

School kids here live luxuriously. The parents provide them with motor cycles, hand phones and lap tops. Certainly they would not want to choose the kind of work that demand for muscles and sweats. They would reject manual labors.

I remember one graduate lady teacher in my former school. Before teaching she worked in factory as Minah Kelang. She enjoyed the work and felt proud of the job. I believe there are many other right attitude people in this country who are patient and willing to face difficulties.

We cannot let this to go on forever; taking in foreigners, giving them citizenships while neglecting our own people. We are all responsible too.

CB RADIO

The Citizens Band Radio Service is a public, non-commercial service that is available to the general population in our country. CB radio station operates in the 26.965 to 27.405 MHz band or 11 meters with a transmitter power output of 4 watts AM or 12 Watts  SSB. But illegally people use higher power.

CB Radio is commonly used when going mobile. When the band condition opens people talk to each other throughout the world. You don't have to sit for any exam to go on CB. CB like the Amateur Radio has the QSL cards and has regular international meeting among members.

Shops that sell amateur radio equipments usually sell the CB radio. But CB is very much cheaper.  Buy the name brand like Midland products. While waiting for the band to open you can talk to your local friends provided they too buy the sets.

There are many thousands hand held CB equipments are being deployed by shoppers for shop to shop communication. It is almost free as compared to the hand phone when asking one shop to send a certain supply. By laws people have to register the equipments with the authority but I think no one does it.

Though the CB has it's own code and style of communication yet procedures use by the ham radio operators are being followed too. If you don't like Radio Amateur Examination and Morse Codes then CB is a good choice for you. In USA CBers are also preparing themselves for disaster and emergency communication.

You will get plenty of information from the internet.

THE RULER'S IMMUNITY

Rulers are above politics. Rulers are over and above. These statements have been echoed and heard by all. But what is really in the Constitution about the position of the Rulers ? I remember pretty well that Mahathir and UMNO had taken away the total immunity of the Rulers and does not make them above laws. And Rais Yatim has been babbling that Malaysia follows the rule of law.

I don't think there is any amendment to the Constitution about the position of the Rulers yet. If it has not been changed, those who took the street against the opposition and Karpal Singh should protest against UMNO and Mahathir, and should push for the immediate amendment to restore the immunity and put the ruler above the law.

It is very sad for many of us that Rulers have been dragged by politicians to side them. The Sultan is the ruler for all. He gives Datukship to UMNO and PAS, MCA and DAP. There is no question about the fairness of our royalty. No political party should make our Sultans PAS,UMNO or ADIL. A King is a symbol of unity and they represent many other institutions.

In Malaysian politics today politicians want the palace to get involved when they have lost all other means. Like a judge the Sultan could not take side though it is against his will.

I see Mahathir as the person who created the problem and it is not yet close unless Parliament does something to give back the immunity.

Let me say something about a Mantra or a Law. Human makes law and they worship it. Remember it does not come from God or falls from the sky. Imagine just ONE man creates it to keep him in power and people are worshipping the Mantra, in fact people are worshipping that man. So most likely the people who make laws prefer to create them so as to strengthen their power. Look at the model of some of the repressive countries and some of the regulations chose for their own benefit.

You must not be surprised if judges can ignore any written command of law. They were saying those are man made and man can ignore them. They just refused to worship like many others. And that is the reason why you see the DAP is challenging those judges for not following the written rules on the issue of Perak.

Of course there is a big question; if the opposition party were to rule would they keep the present set of law or they would just cast them far out in the sea of fire in another galaxy. We can never tell.

NEW SHACK

The computer table shown here was used to be by transceivers but only a few items were seen. The old radio is ICF5900W which is for monitoring the local FM station to know the prayer time, national news and other announcements. The lap top on the right is connected to the internet and the one on the left is for my writing programs. I still write soft wares at 62. But my brain is not as sharp as before. I cannot code complex argument anymore.

I have problem with my male cat which like to piss around the room. The smell is very pungent and I have a very tough time to do the cleaning. I tried to talk to my cat several time hoping it could understand me by the brain wave or God could send my message to her. "Please piss outside the house."

Soon I will be ordering a dozen units of DigitalPersona fingerprint reader for keeping purposes. May be one day later I will need it. I know I can develop several applications with it. I will be waiting for the urge to do it. When it comes, it will take my time off.

In the mean time I just pass my time a little here and there. Now my time on TV has increased. I start to watch Oprah and Big Losses.

SHRINKING WORLD

When I was a kid going to the Holy Land, Mecca (Mekah), would take months by ship. Parents would wait at home for the letters which would come after a month or so. My mother was happy to hear that she would fly for her pilgrimage.  Now it only takes 8 hours to fly to the Holy Land.

Yet in 1982 and 1983 when I went 1 1/2 year schooling in the United State, I have to wait for weeks to get letters from home. Each day I would open the letter box hoping to see one letter. To read the local newspaper I had to go to the library. I was able to read a one month old local paper. The fastest communication with home was using the telephone.

Phoning from the United States back home was very much cheaper then the vice versa. M wife would phone to her relatives one after another on the eve of the Muslim New Year. Those were the days.

Computer was already there. In fact I thought myself BASIC programming from the Radio Shack. But there was no internet yet. It was to come very soon then. But when the networking started we get in touch with each other live using IRC, the plain chat without sound or picture.

The quantum leap is when the microchips was not made a secret weapon anymore. The progress of the internal structure of the micro processor was so very rapid that we have to purchase new computer before the old ones get burn up. Today we can chat while seeing the other person. The audio and the video are of excellent quality. Distant news could be read daily and at any moment.

Once upon a time one had to be a ham radio operator to talk across the world. Today a normal laptop or palm can do all what the ham radio can. Everybody can stretch their hand and being able to be touched by other person all over the world.

I thank God that I have the chance and the opportunity to travel far and wide. Travel will be becoming more and more convenient and cheap. Only a few hours we can reach China or Australia from Malaysia. In those old days people need to wait for the monsoon and sailing took a very long time. Wealthy people shuttle from Malaysia to USA like going from Alor Setar to Penang.

Imagine one day when the earth is destroyed by a certain catastrophe and everything went burning and destroyed. But a few of us somehow survived by the miracle.  We will have to start from zero again. Going 100 miles would take us days.

Calamities can be from the man made materials like the atom bombs or the earth being hit by the foreign objects coming from the outer space. Scientists are looking at the behavior of the meteors. But here might be things beyond our mind other than meteors.

While we are living in this small world, we might as well enjoy it. Do not commit suicide when you are in misery.

AT LAST MANDARIN COMES TO MALAY SCHOOL

At last kids in Primary Schools are learning Mandarin. When I was a school principal, I had a very tough time looking for fund to introduce Mandarin class but to no avail. Even the MCA turned the deaf ear. At about 12 I looked for people to teach me Hokien and later I asked m mother for a Mandarin class money. I went to Kiet Hwa evening class on my own.

I had wanted to learn every other language if I could but I was not able to organize myself. I was not a smart kid neither did I realize the importance of study. But somehow I just felt very keen to learn Mandarin. But the duration of the evening class was short. And I only studied the language for one year.

In university I took mandarin and Thai. Though many of us did not excel but we can manage ourselves in many countries we went to.

I appreciate those who still take up languages at the old age. Everybody says it is for fun. It gives us pleasure.

Learning language at the tender age will leave a deep impact. They learn fast and will not forget what they learn. Every community should not politicized this. Look at it as a chance and opportunity of free knowledge. In my previous essays I have touched about this topic but at the time I was not aware that Mandarin has become a subject in primary schools.

THE BATIK THAT IS NOT A BATIK

The Indonesian claims that Batik is of Indonesian origin. It is not right for the Malaysians to claim it is Malaysian. The Indonesian Batik Is a real design of a style that can be called by the name. The structure and the color scheme is distinct.

When the Malaysian civil servants are required to put batik every last day of the week, we did not see they wear shirts of Batik design. I don't know what to call them and it should be called something else. Nobody says anything about it and designers just carry on with their work and the shops sell them. The ones with beautiful color schemes and design are sold at exorbitant price. The materials are not at all cotton.

Funny, we were all born naked and now rushing for something to cover ourselves. From plant we moved to cotton and from cheap materials to the very expensive ones. And dress at a time can tell people who you are ; a king or a pauper, a police or a lawyer. I say at one time because today dress can cheat people. People use dress to con others.

Let us call the Malaysian designed Batik as Batik which to me is not a real Batik. Trengganu Batik is the most beautiful and the pattern is very outstanding. I would say each Trengganu Batik is the only one in the world. I am talking of the hand made. If you were to go to London super market like Lefayet even a lady's scarf could be very expensive if it is the only piece in the world.

I had the opportunity to visit a Batik factory in Jogjakarta. It was a real Batik; the character, the shape of flowers are real Batik, and they were very beautiful and attractive. But the price was high too. However it would be worth the money.

A good quality male shirt costs about RM100 for short sleeve and a little bit more for the long sleeve. The sweat smell won't stuck there and we can wear the shirt for 2 days. The cheaper material get pungent very fast. After an hour under the hot sun our body odor would stuck there.

Indonesian designed Batik belongs to Indonesia as Bhasmati rice for India and the Black of New Zealand. They are somewhat copy right stuffs. I can't think and say anything about this kind of copy right. Otherwise we have to declare the Malaysian design Batik is our own. It is very different from the Indonesian Batik. May be we need to look for other name to it.

THE EFFECTIVE BARBARIC LAW

The law is intended to protect the victims and the public. There is in no way that we should sympathize or pity for persons who inflict pain or injury on others. Drug dealers and pushers cause more injury to the public as compared to a murderer. But they are all criminals who should be punished.

People broke all sort of laws and you always find individuals or organizations supporting them using any form of arguments they could. Several severe offenders went scot free for the lack of evidence. Evidence went missing or the police station get burnt.

Criminals who have been remanded would continue their previous work committed the same thing especially on the drug case and traffic offenders. They repeat to break the law because the punishment did not cause them any pain. Once a person got use to confinement he will not fear imprisonment.

I never believe that criminals should be respected nor protected. It is the victim who should be protected. A victim could be a person or a country.

Let me narrate a few examples of barbaric punishment that could put away the crimes or the offenders.

1. One Bangladeshi was over stayed in one neighboring country. He was fined and caned. He told every friend of his to spread the word not to repeat the same mistake in that particular country because the cane inflicted a very painful experience.

2. Fishermen intruding into our neighbor's water would be confined to a solitary lock up where one cannot stretch the leg or stand straight. That lock up is a hell. The fishing boat was destroyed. My uncle was involved. When they came back to Malaysia, they spread the news and warned everyone to be careful about territorial intrusion.

3. Drug pushers went missing. They were believe to be killed but nobody knows the killer. There were no questions of going to court. Eventually we heard almost all pushers were missing.

The barbaric law protected the nation and the public. I remember when I was working. Our school toilet was very clean and attractive. I would say it was better than the hotel. Didn't the students vandalized an toilet ? Why not ? The first time they did it. Then we sealed all the toilets. We told them we will only open the toilet on the second day if there were volunteers to put things back in order. After that one time everything went on fine. Everybody was looking at their friends behavior.

Here many people wants to be a hero and get publicity thru the media, championing the criminals forgetting the victims. Drugs flow never stopped. Crimes do not halt. Pushers go scot free. Evidence went missing. Police stations get burnt. Of course public suspect corruptions among high officials and officers in charge of keeping evidence.

TIME SHRINK ?

How long is the long wait ? To different person the essence of time and duration are different. ONE hour could be very long, long or too short depending on situation. If you think about it and count the minutes and seconds then that hour can be very long. If you wait but do not think about it then it will be very fast. TWO hours can  be very short if you are watching something interesting. When your team is playing soccer final against another team and your team is leading 1 - 0, You want the game to complete fast. The opponent want more time so that hey can score goal. The last 5 minutes could be very long for you and too fast for the opponent.

Most of us have been sleeping 1/3 of our lives. The remaining should be used wisely otherwise we would be wasting our live time. For busy people time slip very quickly. I went to a festival in Dayton Ohio about 5 years ago but I thought it was 2 years ago.

How long have you been living ? 30 years ? 40 years ? 60 years ? Taking our live span is 75 years, those who are 60 only have 15 years more to enjoy life. And how long is 15 tears ? Doing the daily routine in no time 5 tears will pass by.

I remember the Arab-Israel war when Anwar Sadat made peace peace with Israel and got back the lost land without any further bloodshed. The agreement said Egypt would get back it's territory with 5 years, and that period has long passed, over 35 years. Till today the Palestinians still do not come to agreement with Israel.

Many of us will die but one man. The man is Mahathir because God wants him to go 200 years or will never die.

People who are doing many things find time is too short. They have many things to do. Each day pass fast and that they cannot catch up with the programs. To them time shrinks.

People in agony like cancer persons, HIV and those waiting to die time is too long. Some pray for their time to go fast. Let them be in peace.

IS THIS THE END OF DAP ?

What's left for the DAP to fight for the Chinese ? Education ? The MCA has done it. Malay Reserve ? Now there is no more Malay Reserve as the law has made that all land can be acquired for development and thousands of acres has been turned into free hold. All done by MCA. Equal right and job opportunity ? Government has taken non-Malays as civil servants and provide scholarships to all races. Also the work of MCA. What is left over for the DAP to fight ? What may be left over is the Premiership.

The government is cracking the DAP and whipped them hard as seen in Perak. I was thinking Hee would just keep quiet and felt guilty about betraying the voters. I was surprised that did not happen. Hee was very adamant and fought her way thru and the police pint point finger at photographers. DAP MPs and supporters were hauled to the police station. Will Najib continue to erase DAP and PAS in any way possible ?

Probably MCA will show it's prowress and what it had done to the Chinese. BN and UMNO may have computed the possible result of GE13 and already running the plan right now, like trying to get the Sarawakians to give BN more seats if it beaten in Peninsular Malaysia.

In my view Chinese in Peninsular Malaysia are waiting very patiently for GE13. Whether DAP is dead or alive the Chinese and like the modern Malays think differently from yester years. They go for the righteousness and honesty. Money may not be the virtue but the moral value system.

Local suppression will be challenged by foreign counter attack in various forms including the economic retaliation. Internationally DAP might get more support than the MCA. The Perak crack down will never kill the party. The members and supporters may grow larger and spread to the other states. The Chinese have stronger mental strength and stronger will power than other ethnic Malaysians.

If the police fear Ipoh becomes Bangkok, it make some sense but inside the assembly and the behavior in the hall was very embarrassing and did not like a civilized country. It was ashamed and disgraceful. Now everybody is waiting for GE13 to see what will be happening. They said 13 is the number. Since independent BN has never been thrown. The 13 will be the day. The Chinese had never gone out for any protest in Malaysia. But this time they already did. It is a very dangerous sign. From what I read the hatred towards BN began during the time of Mahathir.

The picture of Agung was torn up in public. Only God knows what will happen with number 13.
